Project Overview
VirtuKey explores contactless human-computer interaction designed for sterile environments, accessibility needs, and hands-free computing. Using a standard consumer webcam without requiring specialized depth sensors, VirtuKey tracks 21 distinct hand landmarks in real-time.
By measuring relative Euclidean distances between fingertips and thumb landmarks, the application identifies deliberate key clicks against an augmented desktop keyboard canvas with minimal false triggers.
Architectural Highlights
- MediaPipe Hands pipeline extracting 3D landmark coordinates at 30+ FPS.
- Euclidean proximity and velocity vector filtering to differentiate hover from intentional key strikes.
- PyAutoGUI synthetic keystroke dispatch interface.
Key Capabilities
- Real-time visual overlay with responsive key depress animations
- Adjustable click threshold calibration to accommodate different camera angles
- Lightweight architecture operable without GPU acceleration
